The Two-Word Magic Spell for Product Success

We know this already: To build a great project, you don't just need to have a small (sometimes, very small) army of solid devs. You need to refine the project scope. Sure!, you say… But what does that mean?

Creating new software can be a massive undertaking that can take years of development. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to be the first to a solution that's going to be hands-down better than what's already out there.

We're here to tell you how.

Like most magic spells, it's short. It's powerful. And it's harder (but simpler) to pull off than you might dare to imagine.

Choose Wisely

When you are going to do any kind of project, it pays to focus on one thing that your solution can solve. This thing needs to be so important that people will cheerfully pay for it — or abandon using whatever they have been otherwise using. Product-market fit is defined by the fact that customers are pulling it out of your hands without convincing. Look for that magic.

They Gotta Want You. Bad.

To get people to switch — especially for a solution where an existing solution already exists in strong standing in the market and the switching costs (in cash and time alike) are extremely high, you have to be 10 times better than what the current solution is for most adoptees to switch to what you're hawkin'.

So how do you make sure you are on the right track?

Two Words: Magnetic Specificity.

Determine the one, single-use case that you are trying to solve and then focus all of your efforts on that.

You can expand from there, but start from that point or all is, essentially, already lost. Specificity is what magnetizes your market to your side, and that is the only way you're going to win this thing.

Push On

The right kind of tool might never be, technically, "done." There will always be new or additional integrations. Plenty of tools can be so shot through with tempting rabbit holes that it'll be impossible for you to scope it all out completely until you start looking at the scale of the problem you are trying to solve.

Don't let that faze you.

If you have that product-market magic, you're unstoppable.
